Just a Few Facts
Carlos Jiménez Arribas, Spanish writer born in 1966 in Madrid.
After he got his first degree in English Studies (Language and Literature), he started working as a teacher of English. He then went on to study for a second degree in Spanish and completed a PhD dissertation: El poema en prosa en los años setenta en España (The Prose Poem in Spain in the 1970s), published in book form in 2005 by UNED (Spanish Open University).
He started writing well in his early twenties and Bartleby published his first book of poems in 2002, Manual de supervivencia (A Handbook of Survival). Recently, DVD ediciones has published his second book, Darwin en las Galápagos (Darwin in the Galapagos) (2008). He is one of the poets whose work appears collected by Alejandro Krawietz and Francisco León in their anthology La otra joven poesÃa española (Other Young Spanish Poets) (Igitur, 2003).
As a translator, he has translated into Spanish two books of poems by W. B. Yeats, Los cisnes salvajes de Coole (The Wild Swans at Coole) (2003), and La torre (The Tower) (2004), and an anthology of Robert Browning’s verse, La licencia y el lÃmite (The Licence and the Limit) (2005), all of them at DVD ediciones. In 2006, he translated with Juanjo Almagro Iglesias for Bartleby Editores Los muertos y los vivos (The Dead and the Living) (2006), by Sharon Olds. His latest translation, a wide selection of the prose of R. W. Emerson, will be published shortly by Artemisa Ediciones.
He has edited Spanish contemporary poets and poetry, such as the anthology Campo abierto (Open Field) (DVD ediciones, 2005) (co-editor), and the poetry of Ferrer LerÃn, Ciudad propia (A City of My Own) (Artemisa, 2006), and has just handed in for publication an anthology of prose poems in Spain and Spanish-Speaking America.
Artemisa published in 2007 Viaje al ojo de un caballo. Veinte dÃas en Mongolia (Journey into the Eye of a Horse. Twenty Days in Mongolia), his first book of fiction, preceded in 2003 by Planeador (Glider), published by La Playa del Ojo.
